Enhancing Your Quest For Glory
Getting the best QfG 3 import file from QfG 2
We all have our favorite games and tend to play them multiple times. For me, one of those favorites is the Adventure RPG series Quest for Glory. I thoroughly enjoy the story, but having to re-train all those skills and spells can be quite the chore. This is especially tedious given that I develop a hybrid character that unlocks all the abilities in the game. Add to that there are also five games in the series, with each game raising all point maximums by 100 and introducing additional skills and spells. Does a player really have to repeat the task of training abilities every time?
Fortunately, there are "cheats" a player can utilize in the games to quickly advance and bypass some of the grind. Keep in mind, this series is comprised of single-player games, so using them isn't harming other players. There is one trick in particular in Quest for Glory II that I'd like to bring attention to. The second game in the series uses command line input to guide the character's actions. There is a debug mode command that is well-known that allows a player to change stats. To enter this mode, a player need only type "suck blue frog".
Once in this mode, there are a number of keyboard commands to allow a player to view or edit game features. ALT + K will let you edit skills & spells individually, while ALT + H allows you to edit all skills & spells simultaneously. While this isn't new information to most Quest for Glory players, I did encounter the following circumstance I did not find detailed on other sites. The trainable maximum for character skills in the second game is 200. Towards the end of the game, you do encounter a djinni who grants you wishes and can at most raise two skills above that 200. But what if you want to use the developer mode to raise your skills & spells beyond the 200 trainable point maximum for a better import character into the third game?
This is where problems arise because setting the points too high can cause the import file to be corrupted, especially if you have every skill and spell in the game. I tried setting all abilities to 300, but when imported, all abilities were of a score well below 100. After testing a few numbers, I found that the highest value to set all skill & spell points without corrupting the import file was 255. Additionally, I gave myself some extra Healing Pills, Mana Pills, and Poison Cure Pills. I tried for 1,000, but the import cuts it off at 232 each.
To recap, if you play a hybrid character with every skill and spell in Quest for Glory II, the maximum you can set all your skills for import into Quest for Glory III is 255. If you want to bring additional pills, the maximum is 232. Don't worry about additional Vigor Pills as those will not transfer at all. Do not worry about additional money as 200 coins at the start of Quest for Glory III is unchangeable.
May this information be of help to any repeat adventurers embarking anew on their Quest for Glory!
